Generously sponsored by local Arts organisation The RC Sherriff Trust, Claygate Writers in Elmbridge, Surrey is hosting a mini festival of the short story to celebrate the short form and National Short Story Week, over the weekend of 26th-28th November.
No experience needed for any workshop. All events are open to all comers (except children's bedtime stories). Confirmed guest workshop leaders include:
- GERRI RYAN - a highly successful woman's magazine short fiction writer on writing for the women's market.
- EMMA DARWIN - award-winning short fiction writer and historical novelist on writing short fiction for the radio.
- SAMANTHA MACKINTOSH - YA author and ex-editor at Puffin Books on writing short fiction for children
- VANESSA GEBBIE - award winning experimental and flash fiction writer, author of two collections: Words From a Glass Bubble and Storm Warnings, and editor of Short Circuit on writing flash fiction
- SUSANNAH RICKARDS - winner of the Scott Prize, whose first collection Hot Kitchen Snow is just out, on writing competitions and the literary short story
- A Story Tree at Esher Library for children to write stories on leaves and pin them to the tree.
- Bedtime stories for children. Come in PJs, bring your bear and settle down to some bedtime stories. (20 minute sessions each for age groups pre School, 4-6 and 7-8. Open to children and their carers only)
- Gothic Tales Open Mic Night at local pub. Come and read your favourite ghostly tale, or write you own.
All events are within walking distance of CLAYGATE BR station on the Guildford via Cobham line.
